Testimonials
Ann Rullens and Laura Brouwer - The Hague, Netherlands
The organization VOL Nepal had arranged our stay at this hostel FRESH NEPAL. At the beginning we were a little anxious because we had no idea what we were about to experience, but right from the start the host couple Dave and Danna took us under their wing. The first day when the children came home from school (we were already settled in the new building of fresh Nepal, the organization moved houses the same day we arrived) we could see the excitement on their faces, causing a great feeling of happiness on our side. We knew this was going to be an amazing, non-forgettable experience. We played on the rooftop and in their garden with the new badminton set and football, and also played by the temple, round the corner from their house. The hostel is very near to the main shopping road and a 15 minute walk to Durbar square.
And indeed, almost 3 weeks later we feel like we truly made a personal connection with each and every child. But most importantly of all, we have improved their English skills by only speaking English with them and helping with their homework. Leaving makes us sad, but at the same time we know these 15 children (soon about to be 17) are taken care of in almost the best way possible. Dev, Dhana and the household staff provide these children with food, shelter, medical care and most important: education at a great level, all of which do not come at a cheap price.
Although Dev and Dhana are doing a good job, there is always room for improvement. We feel that the children should brush their teeth twice a day, every day. They should eat more fruit, vegetables and dairy products, and should be able to actually play with toys and crayons instead of them lying in a cupboard in the office. We hope that not only more donations will be made by sponsors but also that other volunteers will come and play with the children and help with their schoolwork: they need a lot more personal attention.

Without any experience with children, I took the plane to Kathmandu, Nepal. During this flight I was wondering how it would be in the orphanage. By arriving in the airport, Dev, the founder of the organization, was waiting for me. He directly welcomed me with open arms, which felt very comfortable. He explained me in the taxi the working of Fresh Nepal, stories about his family and about the structure of this beautiful country. So in ten minutes I received a nice and quick overview.
When I first saw the children and the staff, I knew this was going to be a good stay. The kids were really nice, all with their own characters, but unforgettable. They liked to play and they wanted to learn a lot of things, which is good for their education and their future life.
I showed them several places in Nepal, cooked, played, learnt… and so many other things I did together with them.
I stayed three weeks in Fresh Nepal as a volunteer. The band I created with these orphans and with the staff was (and is) really incredible! With just a smile, they can give you so much back…
For me this was an experience I will never forget and I will certainly carry this in my mind for the rest of my life…
Namaste,

When I was for the first time in Nepal I decided to visit those organization, but I only had one day to spend with the children. But even that time was a good time, that’s why I was coming again to FRESH NEPAL after my India-travel.
Whenever I saw the kids, they were having so much energy & were full of love that they shared all the power and happiness with me. Also Dev, the two Dhana’s and Lamalti were very friendly to me, so I was feeling much welcomed. When I was ill, they also helped me & so I was becoming better soon.
But also small routine thinks, which I’ve done (nearly) every day like bringing the kids to school & give them Dal for eating or helping them by the homework were very nice. Only sometimes it was a bit hard to have good nerves, especially, when all children wanted to speak or play on the same time with me or when they were fithing on the same time.
It was also not easy for me to see all the poorness. Some of the children didn’t have underwear (because they loosed them and it’s to expensive to bye new every time) and on the monsum time they were not able to use raincoats.
So I was thinking that I have to do something, bought the raincoats and the underwear and now I’m a live member of FRESH NEPAL that I can help them/us much if I can. And I feel better now.
If all persons look to each other and are not only interested in themselves we can become a better world. It’s also your choise. And : If you can share happiness the happiness would come bag to you!!!
I’m very happy to met FRESH NEPAL and I hope that we can create a better future for the kids and woman of Nepal!
Dhaniabaat!!!
Yours faithfully didi Tara ;)

Volunteering with Fresh Nepal's rural project was the most enriching experience of my life. Not only was I able to teach wonderfully enthusiastic and receptive children but I was also fully integrated into the family and the village community.
The village of Mulla, Darchula in the North West of Nepal has made a mark on my life, one that I will never forget. I was teaching class one to class five, with children from 3 years to 15 years old. For a project of this sort, it is essential to devote as much time as you possibly can in order for the children and you to benefit. It was quite challenging in the beginning as I found my feet and learned that different age groups tended to learn in very different ways. The younger classes learned more when engaged with games and songs; whilst the older classes really enjoyed role play as well. The key was to speak to them only in English- all the time. No matter how much Nepali I picked up from the villagers, it was very important to fully immerse the children in English at all times. I stayed in Mulla for six weeks and I wished I could have devoted more time.
I am eager for more volunteers to take up where I left off. They were very fast learners and it would be a shame to not continue educating these kids. You will not regret your decision to volunteer on this project. My host family took me in as their own and the youth of the village embraced me and would take me on walks and playing cricket. This is an opportunity to make a huge impact on the lives of these kids and an opportunity to live like a real Nepali and learn the language. If you have any questions, Fresh Nepal can forward you on my email address. I would be very happy to offer advice or discuss my experience in further detail
